Production engineering department (NTU) is chief production engineer department (OGT) successor, arranged on the 1st of August 1939 in order to provide enterprise production technological preparation, implementing scientific-applied researches results and developments in the field of technology and arrangement of shipbuilding production, effective usage of enterprise scientific production basis.

JSQo “PO “Sevmash” production engineering department is to ensure technological preparation of the enterprise production in the following directions:

- building of main and serial nuclear submarines, surface ships for civil purpose, as well as technical facilities (aids) for oil and gas extraction at sea and on shore;

- repair and salvage of nuclear submarines and surface ships of all types and classes including ones with nuclear power system;

- manufacturing of components and equipment, technological outfitting for producing submarine and civil engineering objects.

Among the most priority directions of NTU activities one can also mention the following:

- designing of enterprise development prospective scheme, yearly program of JSQo “PO “Sevmash” production capacities technical rearmament according to production plans;

- arrangement of technological equipment delivery for development of production-technological potential of all enterprise productions types (hull plating, hull welding, slip way, pipe processing, machine building, non-metallic, metallurgical and many others);

- designing means of technological outfitting for manufacturing products in all directions of enterprise production activity, as well as third party organizations (including test benches, press-molds, stamps, outfitting for carrying out assembly welding works and so on);

- designing and implementation of high, environmentally appropriate resource-saving wasteless technologies, and other efficient and progressive technological processes and technological outfitting means for all production types;

- carrying out scientific-research works in the field of non-metallic materials (paintwork, glass-fibre-reinforced plastic and many others);

- constant updating and increasing preparation efficiency, production and technological processes arrangement thanks to using automation task complex solutions and implementation of up-to-date information technologies.
