Sevmashvtuz was established by special order of USSR Council of Ministers in January 1965 to prepare specialists in building and repair of nuclear submarines. Com-bined order of State shipbuilding committee and USSR Ministry of Higher Educational Institutions in the same year determined status of Sevmashvtuz as branch of Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute (now Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University, SPbGMTU). By these documents Sevmashvtuz got status of plant-higher educational institution attached to Severnoye mashinostroitel’noye predpri-yatiye in Severodvinsk (now JSC “PO “Sevmash”).
Educational process is realized by full time form (including edu-cational system plant-higher educational institution) and full time-part time (evening) education forms. Specialists’ preparation according to plant-higher educational institution system remains the main edu-cation form, supported by basic enterprises of Russian State Naval & Nuclear Engineering Center (GRTsAS), located in Severodvinsk and Murmansk region (Murmansk-60, Snezhnogorsk). Sevmashvtuz has 20 sub-faculties within 6 faculties, where 3200 students study. During working period university prepared 15 thousand of certi-ficated specialists. Every year nearly 150 graduates of Sevmashvtuz come on Sevmash.
In every school-period the best students, educating for specialties of shipbuilding profile, are awarded by name scholarships, established at the honour of E.P. Egorov, F.N. Shusharin, G.A. Prosjankin, also scholarships of the head of administration of Arkhangelsk`s region and Severodvinsk.
In SPbGMTU “Sevmashvtuz” branch there is multilevel system of specialists’ preparation: specialist with secondary technical education; specialist with higher profes-sional education - bachelor; specialist with higher professional education – certificated specialist. Post graduate education is also being carried out. In the post-graduate course eighteen people study from JSC “PO “Sevmash”, CS “Zvezdochka”, JSC “SPO “Arctic” and other enterprises. Every year 550-600 students study at faculty of profes-sional development for new directions of science, technique and technology. They are mainly leading employees and GRTsAS enterprises specialists of Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk and Arkhangelsk region.
The school- and education process is provided by professors and teachers, more than half of which have academic degrees of doctors and candidate of science. More than 50 leading specialists of GRTsAS enterprises take part in educational process. Sevmashvtuz has school-military centre and sub-faculty of naval train-ing, realizing preparation of reserve officers with higher military education.
Institute has five educational-laboratory buildings, sport com-plex, student dormitory. Computer park consists of about 300 computers, including 15 specialized computer classes. All computers are connected in single computer network with access in Internet.
