PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA IN SEVMASH

    President of Russia visited Sevmash for the first time.
    D. Medvedev visited the largest ship-building enterprise for the fist time. Accompanied by the Assistant to the President, the Secretary of the State Council Alexander Abramov, Deputy Chairmen of Government of the Russian Federation Sergei Ivanov and Igor Sechin, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Minister of Trade and Industry Viktor Khristenko, Chief Navy Vladimir Vysotsky and other senior officials, the President visited the embankment of Sevmash where the main objects were first in the world marine ice resistant platform «Prirazlomnaya», aircraft carrier «Vikramaditya» for the Indian Navy, and floating power generation unit for the tidal power station.
    D. Medvedev visited also the largest in Europe sheltered hangar where new atomic submarines are situated, and more detailed got to know with construction of two vessels – multipurpose submarine «Severodvinsk» and strategic rocket carrier «Alexander Nevskiy. The President saw one more submarine «Yuri Dolgoruky» in the sea where it was passing sea trials.
    Upon completion of the inspection the meeting was held on future trends of submarine forces development in Russia. “The way we work including on Sevmash will affect the decision of one of the key tasks of our country – complete by 2020 the construction of military core of naval ships of Russia” – said D. Medvedev. –For this purpose we have all possibilities : scientific base for designing, the structure itself of the shipbuilding and ship-repair industry and most importantly our desire to deal with this issue. We build ships, which must meet the highest requirements. They must be equipped with modern weapons, be competitive and, most importantly, conform to or exceed their foreign analogues. In this purpose, there is nothing new. We had one of the most advanced and efficient navy during Soviet period. Now the task is the same”.
